The refuge "Gambino" under Mount Grammondo is a nice little house of ancient design, laying in a sunny glade at 1000 m. of altitude, in the heart of Ligure Alps, at one hour and a half of walking (one hour with an off-road vehicle) from Cote d'Azur, surrounded by young pine woods, by the parfums of lavender, broom, wild rose. Cosy and familiar, it is a true little mountain lodge, with a tiny dining room provided with a very efficient wood stove, sleeping accomodation for 12 persons in a wooden clean large room, one toilet, and a little kitchen whence courses from mountain tradition are created with devotion and skill.
Positioned along one of the famous french Grand Randonée (Great Trails), the number 52 one, and ideal stop along Alta Via dei Monti Liguri (Ligure Mounts High Way), refuge Gambino at Mount Grammondo is a place of relax and meditation, where groups and singles may find their "natural" dimension.
Point of departure for ascensions, excursions and rock-climbings,it too offers rest and places for tents to whom which wants to sleep under stars and, saving the weight of one's food, to taste the homemade specialities cooked by the managers.
To arrive to Refuge Gambino: by foot from:
-Olivetta San Michele (Val Roya) in about 2 hours and 30 min.;
-Torri-Villatella (above Ventimiglia) in about 3 hours and 30 min.;
-Castellar-Chapel of S. Bernardo (France, above Mentone), in about 2 hours;
-Sospel (France), in about 4 hours.
With a good off-road vehicle, from:
-Castellar (wonderful and panoramic french village that overtop Cote d'Azur above Mentone), in 1 hour and 30 min.;
-Torri-Villatella, along a narrow and risky road, fit for little off-road vehicles, in about 2 hours.
Come for a visit, even if only for a glass of good Rossese wine and a salami slice, or a glass of a very palatable water from Gerri Source, pursued from all as highly healthy. (Luca, cell.: 3291927724).
